Dredging of fill material

A project s borrow area may be a designated area known to contain sufficient fill material of adequate quality. However, a borrow area is also often an area that needs to be dredged as part of another project, without much consideration to the suitability of the dredged material as a construction material. For instance, a contract may stipulate that all materials dredged from an anticipated harbour basin will be used as fill for a nearby reclamation area - without considering the quality of the dredged material. Such a requirement may limit the quality of the land reclamation. [Pg.83]
