Symbol 0 indicates depth when concrete skirts contact seafloor 

Calculation of penetration resistance of solid dowels and thick-walled (concrete) skirts are performed by bearing capacity formulas. Penetration resistance for thin-walled (steel) skirts and dowels is based on recent experience (Lunne and St. John, 1979). The skirt tip resistance and skirt skin friction are given in Equations 10.59 and 10.60  

K and Kf are the empirical coefficients varying with soil type c(z) is the Dutch cone penetration (cpt) at depth z d is the penetration depth of skirt tip
