Dixon, Harold

Schuster had an informed interest in chemical problems. He taught a course in chemical physics that was attended by chemistry honors students. Topics included spectrum analysis, saccharimetry, and electrolysis. In 1894, he organized a fortnightly "physical colloquium" for second- and third-year physics students joined by some chemistry honors students. He closely followed the chemical research of his colleagues, Roscoe and Harold Baily Dixon. In interpreting results in his special field of spectroscopy and in electrochemistry, Schuster visualized an "ionic" mechanism of electrical conduction in liquids and gases.60... 

Partial oxidations have not been as frequently studied. Harold and co-workers have simulated a partial oxidation reaction scheme in an 02-fed CMR. Bernstein et al. simulated methane partial oxidation, while Dixon et al. modelled partial oxidation of o-xylene to phthalic anhydride to examine temperature profiles.

Harold Baily Dixon (London, ii August i852-Lytham, Lancs., i8 September 1930), son of William Hepworth Dixon the author, studied at Christ Church, Oxford (1871-5), but failing to gain a degree in classics he took up the study of chemistry imder A.
