Among these dye classes, anthraquiaone dyes are ia an important position ia reactive dyes and vat dyes for cellulose fibers, disperse dyes for polyester, and acid dyes for polyamide. Application for high performance organic pigments for plastics and paints are also important areas. 

Introduction of a second solvent, incompatible with the continuous phase of a normally stable dispersion, produces an unstable condition if the new solvent wets the surface of the solid better than does the original vehicle. The instability induced by the introduction of a oily vehicle to an aqueous dispersion of an organic pigment is exploited commercially in the so-called flushing of pigments from an aqueous liquor into a vehicle.

There are various methods for the determination of the size distribution of organic pigment particles, the most common are sedimentation techniques in ultracentrifuges and specialized disk centrifuges as well as electron microscopy. These methods require considerable experimental skill, since the results depend largely on sample preparation and especially on the quality of the dispersion.
