Pressure-relief-device requirements are defined in Subsec. A. Set point and maximum pressure during relief are defined according to the service, the cause of overpressure, and the number of relief devices. Safety, safety relief, relief valves, rupture disk, breaking pin, and rules on tolerances for the reheving point are given.

An ocular micrometer is a disk on which is etched a scale in units from 0 to 50 or 100. To determine the micrometer value of each unit in a particular eyepiece and at a specific magnification, the unit must be calibrated with a stage micrometer. A stage micrometer has a scale 2 mm long ruled in fine intervals of 0.01 mm (10 finl). 

As in infrared spectroscopy, not all vibrations are observable. A vibration is Raman active if it changes the polarizability of the molecule. This requires in general that the molecule changes its shape. For example, the vibration of a hypothetical spherical molecule between the extremes of a disk-shaped and a cigar-shaped ellipsoid would be Raman active. We recall that the selection rule for infrared spectroscopy was that a dipole moment must change during the vibration. As a consequence the stretch vibrations of for example H2 (4160.2 cm"1), N2 (2330.7 cm-1) and 02 (1554.7 cm"1) are observed in Raman spectroscopy but not in infrared. The two techniques thus complement each other, in particular for highly symmetrical molecules. 

Everything in QED is stored in "triples like in the LEAP language. (28) Each triple consists of an index, an attribute, and a value. QED maintains pointer lists to entries that have the same index, attribute, or value so that it can quickly retrieve relations given any combination of I, A, or V. The triples are stored in QED s software implemented virtual memory that is mapped to disk. The internal form of the ALPHA-TO-SC rule is shown in Table IV. 

Procedure for Examination of Ruled Disk. Since the lines on the ruled disk are straight and not concentric arcs about the center of the rotor, the sharpest image of the lines is obtained with a stationary rotor. The disk in its holder was placed in the rotor, which was coupled to the drive. The correct orientation of the lines, perpendicular to a radius of the rotor, was accomplished by rotating the disk holder to give the sharpest line edges as examined on the monitor in real time (see Figure 3). The camera lens was focused to produce the sharpest line images.
