Discharge coefficient, mixing

The reader should be very careful not to confuse (the flow coefficient commonly used in North America) with the discharge coefficient C more commonly used in the rest of the world. Such a mix-up can lead to serious errors. is not used outside North America and has no relationship to the terms defined in liquations 2-34 to 2-37. The reader should avoid the common confusion that it sometimes creates. 

The orifice column is widely used for mixing. With an average orifice discharge coefficient of 0.66, the permanent loss is about 95 per cent of the pressure differential. Using these figures and when expressing velocity as barrels per hour, the following formula results ... 

In Fig. 5 the film growth rate is plotted against discharge current in order to obtain a value for the sticking coefficient y. Argon was mixed with styrene to obtain a stabilized discharge.
