Directed Writing for the Real World

Taken together, the three elements form a comprehensive approach to getting writing done quickly and well. 

an outline prevents exploration of ideas as you think them because you ve got an outline, you will be tempted to follow it in serial fashion. Unfortunately (for outline-based writing processes), the human mind is not a serial computer. It works by association, and when an idea pops into your head, it is often worth exploring that idea right then and there, lest you lose the thought forever.
