Reactions of phosphines and phosphites have received some attention but their preparative value is limited. The zwitterion formed from diphenylmethylphosphine and benzyne rearranges to ylide (124) which can be captured by Wittig alkenation, with cyclohexanone, in about 20% yield.159 Some synthetically useful reactions of tellurium and selenium compounds with arynes have been reported. When equimolar amounts of diphenyl ditellurium, bis[4-ethoxyphenyl] ditellurium, and mercury(Il) chloride were refluxed in ethanol, a yellow solid precipitated, for which the structure of an arenetellurolatomercury chloride was postulated6. 

Diorgano ditellurium compounds react with transition metal salts and carbonyl complexes to form coordination compounds (Table 5, p. 283). Complexes with the following transition metals have been reported Ti, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Re, Fe, Ir, Ni, Pd, Pt, Cu, Ag, Cd, Hg, Yb, and U. In many of these complexes, the organyltelluro group bridges the metal atoms in binuclear complexes. Diaryl Tellurium 3-Mercaptopropanoate To a solution of 0.05 mol of the diaryl tellurium oxide in 50 ml anhydrous toluene are added 0.05 mol 3-mercaptopropanoic acid. The stirred mixture is refluxed for 3 h. Water is removed by azeotropic distillation and collected in a Dean-Stark trap. The toluene is evaporated. The diphenyl derivative is purified by preparative thin-layer chromatography and column chromatography with toluene as mobile phase.
