Dimensional order, limited long range

Heat-treated PBZO fibers have a three-dimensionally ordered crystal structure with limited long-range order (94,210). The structure exhibits a relatively... [Pg.7163]

Taking into account the properties of the parameter d, which is completely non-sensitive to the chemical structure of the macromolecules, one can conclude that the mesophase of PMCS-6 is characterized by one-dimensional (ID-) positional long-range order. It suggests that all experimental evidence obtained for mesophase behavior of PMCS-6 can be described exclusively within the limits of a ID-structural model. This conclusion is confirmed by the examination of the X-ray diffi-action patterns of non-crystallizible atactic PMCS-6 homopolymer obtained at temperatures of about 10-40° higher than the glass transition temperature. These patterns show a relatively low intensity maximum at 20 in addition to the intense principle mesophase reflection at 20 . The ratio d /d is equal to 2, confirming the formation of a ID-ordered structure. [Pg.108]

Ferroelectric ordering in certain infinite two-dimensional lattices is due to the long-range contribution of dipole forces. Thus, it is not surprising that in limited two-dimensional lattices numerical calculations of dipole interactions lead to the replacement of ferroelectric states with macrovortex states64 which approximate to ferroelectric states far from the center of the limited lattice (coinciding with the center of the macrovortex). [Pg.21]
