Badea and coworkers [179] reported an investigation on the thermal stability of a series of new complexes with azo- and azomethinic-chromophores of the type [Er(HL)2(H20)2](H0) (where H2L is o,o -dihydroxy-azobenzene, N-(2-hydroxy-1 -naphthalidene)aminophenol or N-(2-hydroxy-1 -naphthalidene)anthranilic acid). The thermal behaviour steps of complexes were compared with those of the corresponding ligands. The thermal transformations are complex processes according to TG and DTG curves, including phenol elimination, oxidative condensation and thermolysis processes. The final product of decomposition of all the complexes was Er203. [Pg.480]

Coordination polymers of azo dyes were introduced by Suh and coworkers. They have employed o,oCdihydroxyazobenzene and its derivatives as dye building blocks to produce coordination polymers of the basic structure 37 with various metal ions. The polymeric material obtained from the parent dihydroxy-azobenzene and iron metal showed semiconducting proper-... [Pg.67]

NLO materials (16 and 17) (Fig. 13) have been obtained from polyurethanes by the incorporation of sidechains with boron chromophores.37 The dihydroxy ligand of an azobenzene ligand containing a dimesityl boron acceptor was reacted in a polycondensation fashion with the diisocyanate groups of the polyurethanes to yield the desired polymers. Halogen displacement and transmetallation reactions have been utilized in the development of extended ir-conjugated systems of tri-9-anthrylborane with dendritic structures.38 In one (18) (Fig. 14) of the novel compounds, three identical... [Pg.28]

Of all the compounds prepared before 1909, product No. 606 proved to be particularly effective against syphilis. It was marketed as Salvarsan in Europe, and was known as Arsphenamine in the U SA. It was originally thought that this compound was an arsenic analog of azobenzene it was represented as 1, a dimer with an -As=As- double bond and designated as 3,3 -diamino-4,4 -dihydroxy-arsenobenzene (Scheme 1.4). [Pg.5]

Photochromic materials have been widely used in textiles. " °°Typical organic photochromic compounds include azobenzenes, spiropyrans, sprroooxaztnes, viologens, fulgides, 1,4-dihydroxy anthraquinone and diarylethenes. They are based on different photochromisms, that is, isomerization of molecules, ionization of molecules and redox reaction of molecules. Azobenzenes, spiropyrans and viologens have been most widely used in textiles. [Pg.452]
