DIFLUOROBENZENES Interest in the commercialization of difluoroaromatics in crop protection chemicals and dmgs (Table 5) continues to be strong. Numerous liquid crystals containing the 1,2-difluorobenzene moiety have been synthesized. Table 6 lists physical properties of commercially significant intermediates such as o-, m-, and -difluorobenzene, 2,4-difluoroaniline and 2,6-difluorobenzonitrile. The LD q values for the three isomeric difluorobenzenes are identical 55 g/m for 2 h (inhalation, mouse) (127). [Pg.324]

Dihalo-5-fluoroben/oic acids, obtained by oxidation of the corresponding acetophenones, have received considerable attention as intermediates for antibac-tenal fluoroquinolones [3reacts with acetyl chloride to give 2,4,5-trifluoroacetophenone [29] (equation 19) 1,3,5-Tn-fluorobenzene and 1,2-difluorobenzene yield 2,4,6-trifluoroacetophenone and 3,4-difluoroacetophenone, respectively [30] (equations 20 and 21). [Pg.414]

Electrophilic substitution in benzo[fe]thieno- and benzo[fe]furo-[2,3-c]pyridines (2) occurs mainly at the 6-position, although when this position is blocked by Cl in a related structure 5-,7-, and 8-substituted products are formed. The usefulness of triflu-oromethanesulfonic acid as a new solvent with CFCI3 for the reaction of fluorine with aromatics has been explored. Fluorobenzene gives 1,4-difluorobenzene (31%) and 1,2-difluorobenzene (7%) instead of the addition products mainly observed when the acid is absent 1,2- and 1,3- but not 1,4-difluorobenzene undergo further substitution at appropriate acidity. [Pg.288]

The increasing importance of fluoroaromatics as fine chemicals and continuing research into more selective or directed fluorination methods suggests that the future may see the introduction of more industrial processes, especially for those compounds such as the 1,2-difluorobenzenes which are difficult or expensive to produce by existing technologies. [Pg.75]

The decomposition of arenediazonium tetrafluoroborates in the resulting fluoroarene as solvent has also been utilized.179 This method is very fruitful in the synthesis of fluorobenzene (96% yield) or fluorotoluenes (85-88% yield for the three isomers) but fails with substrates such as anisolediazonium tetrafluoroborates which probably arylate the reactive fluoroaromatic solvent. In contrast, perfluorinated tertiary amines (EF-L 174, F-C 40), perfluorinated alkyl tetrahydropyran (EF-L 102), perfluorodecahydronaphthalene (Flutec PP7) or other per-fluorocycloalkanes (Flutec s) are claimed to be the best media for fluorodediazoniation of all types of diazonium tetrafluoroborates.224 These media seem to be more efficient, at least in the synthesis of 1,2-difluorobenzene, than silicone oil which has also been claimed to improve fluorodediazoniation.225... [Pg.714]

Several interesting fluoroaromatic derivatives, e.g, 3, can be obtained in good to excellent yield by fluorodenitration with potassium fluoride in sulfolane using phthaloyl fluoride (2) or tetrafluorophthaloyl fluoride as nitrite ion traps. 1,2-Difluorobenzenes 4 are formed from 1 -fluoro-... [Pg.233]
