Diameter extractor

FIG. 23-38 Efficiency and capacity range of small-diameter extractors, 50 to 150 mm diameter. Acetone extracted from water with toluene as the disperse phase, V /V = 1.5. Code AC = agitated cell PPC = pulsed packed column PST = pulsed sieve tray RDC = rotating disk contactor PC = packed column MS = mixer-settler ST = sieve tray. (Stichlmair, Chem. Ing. Tech. 52(3), 253-255 [1980]). [Pg.2118]

A new countercurrent continuous centrifugal extractor developed in the former USSR (214) has the feature that mechanical seals are replaced by Hquid seals with the result that operation and maintenance are simplified the mechanical seals are an operating weak point in most centrifugal extractors. The operating units range between 400 and 1200 mm in diameter, and a capacity of 70 m /h has been reported in service. The extractors have been appHed in coke-oven refining (see Coal conversion processes), erythromycin production, lube oil refining, etc. [Pg.77]

The Oldshue-Rushton (Mixco) extractor is similar in construction to the RDC in the fact that it is a relativelv open design, consisting of a series of compartments separated by horizontal stator baffles. The major difference from the RDC is that the height/diameter ratio of the compartments is greater, each compartment is fitted with vertical baffles, and the mixing is accomplished by means of a turbine impeller rather than a disc. [Pg.1482]

Karr, Holmes, and Cusack have given comparisons of the Karr column volumetric efficiency with other types of extractors. In Table 15-10 are data showing the values of HETS and volumetric efficiency over a range of column diameters from 1-36 in (0.025-0.9 m) Fig. 15-51... [Pg.1487]

In a 5-1. three-necked flask, fitted with a ball-joint sealed stirrer and a Soxhlet extractor (70 mm. internal diameter X 300 mm. length of body) carrying a large-capacity condenser, are placed... [Pg.48]

In order to process larger quantities of coal, an extraction reactor was constructed. The extractor was essentially a standing metal cylmder sealed on the bottom, approximately 30 cm in diameter and 84 cm in length. An electrical belt-driven stirring mechanism was fitted through the top of the reactor to provide mixmg, and three elechical band heaters were wrapped around the outside to supply process heat. A water-cooled condenser was also installed to condense NMP durmg reflux The system could routinely extract 1 to 2 kg of coal with 20 to 25 L of NMP. [Pg.213]

The alternative is hexane, which because of the explosion hazard requires a more expensive type of extractor construction. After the extraction the product is dull gray. The continuos sheet is slit to the final width according to customer requirements, searched by fully automatic detectors for any pinholes, wound into rolls of about 1 m diameter (corresponding to a length of 900-1000 m), and packed for shipping. Such a continuous production process is excellently suited for supervision by modern quality assurance systems, such as statistical process control (SPC). Figures 7-9 give a schematic picture of the production process for microporous polyethylene separators. [Pg.259]

In a drop extractor, liquid droplets of approximate uniform size and spherical shape are formed at a series of nozzles and rise eountercurrently through the continuous phase which is flowing downwards at a velocity equal to one half of the terminal rising velocity of the droplets. The flowrates of both phases are then increased by 25 per cent. Because of the greater shear rate at the nozzles, the mean diameter of the droplets is however only 90 per cent of the original value. By what factor will the overall mass transfer rate change ... [Pg.860]

The simplest form of extractor is a spray column. The column is empty one liquid forms a continuous phase and the other liquid flows up, or down, the column in the form of droplets. Mass transfer takes places to, or from, the droplets to the continuous phase. The efficiency of a spray tower will be low, particularly with large diameter columns, due to back mixing. The efficiency of the basic, empty, spray column can be improved by installing plates or packing. [Pg.623]

An extractor of 2-1. capacity with fritted disc of 85 mm. diameter and coarse porosity was used (Figure 2). [Pg.45]
