INDEX detoxication

Introduction Considerable effort was expended in 1970 in ctnnparing, among different species, the biotransformation of a particular compound. More and more, such studies point out the difficulty of finding a suitable animal species for toxicity studies that, qualitatively and quantitatively, produces the metabolites that are excreted by man. In instances, the toxicity of metabolites has been studied thus, it has been possible to establish unequivocally whether a biotransformation had resulted in a "detoxication." For generic names, structural formulas or chemical names have been provided, if they are not present in The Merck Index.
