2 Determination of sulphosuccinic acid and fatty amine from alkylsulphosuccinamates [Pg.140]

After transferring the solution to a separating funnel, neutralise to phenolphthalein with 5M sodium hydroxide, then add 10 ml excess. (Caution the solution will become hot during neutralisation. Add the alkali a little at a time, with continuous cooling.) [Pg.140]

Extract the fatty amine with petroleum ether. Keep the aqueous layer. [Pg.140]

Evaporate the petroleum ether extract to dryness, cool and weigh the fatty amine. If required, dissolve the fatty amine in ethanol and titrate [Pg.140]

Neutralise the aqueous layer to phenolphthalein and make just alkaline. [Pg.141]
