2 Determination of germanium using graphite-tube AAS technique General remarks 

The germanium is extracted from hydrochloric acid solution (molar concentration 8) with the aid of chloroform and subsequently reextracted by shaking out with water.

Direct determination of germanium is not possible with the furnace method owing to uncontrolled matrix effects. It is necessary to concentrate the germanium by extraction.
