Determination of design traffic ESAL

The determination of the cumulative traffic in equivalent standard (80 kN) axle loading (ESAL) is carried out as outlined in Section 12.7.1. 

The conversion of the commercial vehicle (all except private cars) to standard axles is carried out using the AASHTO equivalency factors (see Table 12.3) or, alternatively, the equivalency truck factors given in Table 12.5.
