Si(lll) plane [300]. Because the redox potential of the Cd +/Cd couple is much lower than the flat band potential of Si substrate, the surface electron concentration is sufficiently high. Thus the process occurs similarly as on a metal surface at relatively low cathodic overpotentials. The initial stages of Cd deposition were explained by progressive nucleation and cluster growth controlled by hemispherical diffusion. CdTe deposition on Si was also studied due to interest in application in IR radiation detectors. Mechanisms of this process on different planes of n-Si(lOO) was also discussed ([203, 301, 302] and references given therein).

The BPIX modules were built [ 10] and extensively tested at PSI [9, 11,12]. The goal of the module tests at PSI was to verify that all pixels function correctly, each ROC can be programmed properly, and all calibrations of a module produce meaningful results. All modules were graded and only the best quality modules were used in the final system. In total, 948 modules have been manufactured and tested. The carbon BPIX detector mechanics was fabricated at the University of Ziirich. 

In addition to the signal and power cables, silicon rubber hoses fixed with aluminum clips were mounted to connect the aluminum cooling lines of the detector mechanics and of the supply tubes. A leak test of the 10 cooling lines of each half detector was performed by filling the lines and monitoring the amount of coolant. No leaks were detected inside the pixel system. 

The generic term computerized tomography has expanded to include several different areas, including X-ray CT, ECT, and NMR CT. CT has been applied primarily in the field of diagnostic imaging. It can be divided into three major areas, depending on the source and detector mechanism transmission CT, emission CT, and NMR CT. 

Thermal detector mechanisms are easily understood and the responsivity easily predicted using only a coefficient that tells how the observable varies with temperature and the formulas of classical thermal engineering. We do not need to understand solid-state physics or quantum mechanics to understand thermal detectors.
