Design of CSTR for Chain Polymerisation Reaction

A chain polymerisation reaction is a special type of multiple reaction in which polymeric compounds of differenf chain lengths are produced by a sequence of simultaneous reactions. Reaction is initiated by a monomer molecule M reacting with another monomer molecule to produce a polymer chain P2 having two monomers [Pg.169]

This is followed by a chain of reactions in which one monomer molecule M reacfs with a polymer chain having r monomers to produce a polymer chain having r + 1 monomers. [Pg.169]

Each one of the reaction steps is assumed to be a simple elementary reaction of order 2. All the reaction steps have the same rate constant k. Thus, the rate equations for the reaction steps are as follows  [Pg.169]

Cpr concenfrafion of the polymer chain of chain length r (having r monomers) Tp, rate of formation of polymer P, [Pg.169]

Define space time x = V/q and fractional conversion of monomer M, = 1 - (CM/Cnfo). Cf2i is the final concentration of unconverfed monomer in the reactor effluent. Cp2,Cp3. Cp, [Pg.169]
