The catalytic upgrading of petroleum fractions in fluid bed/riser reactors (FCC) is a major refinery operation. Because of its industrial significance, this process has been the subject of much study, yet there remains a lack of detailed knowledge concerning the mechanisms of product formation and the deposition of coke during FCC operations.
