Deoxygenation copper® iodide

The aqueous solution of EtOH was deoxygenated by helium bubbling in the solution for 10 min before use. Methyl vinyl ketone (from Aldrich) was distilled under 20 torr and collected in a round-bottom flask cooled in a C02-acetone bath, immediately before use. Purifications of copper iodide (from Merck, Darmstadt, Germany) and Zn dust (60 fim... [Pg.363]

A study of the a-arylation of diazine mono iV-oxides, under Heck-like conditions, also gave emphasis to pyrazines but a number of examples using pyrimidines and pyridazines were also described (Scheme 1). A wide range of aryl chlorides, bromides and iodides was used and the products were easily deoxygenated by catalytic reduction. An interesting feature was the use of a copper additive, which was only required for the pyrimidine reactions, to give a very substantial improvement in yield <06AG(I)7781>. [Pg.384]

Reactions.—New systems for the reduction of alkyl halides to alkanes include mixtures of lithium aluminium hydride with transition-metal chlorides (such as Ni or Co" chlorides) and some complex metal hydrides of copper, especially the THF-soluble Li4CuHs. Details of the application of sodium cyanoborohydride to the reduction of halides (and sulphonate esters) in dipolar aprotic solvents have been published. Virtually all other functional groups are inert to this convenient, mild, and efficient system, which has been used to develop a one-pot deoxygenation of primary alcohols (Scheme 39) via the iodides. The alternative cyanoborohydride reagents (55) and the polymeric (56) are also discussed. ... [Pg.130]
