Density maximum moisture content method

The maximum moisture content method is based on the assumption that the density of cell wall substance is constant for all species. A value of 1.5 g/cm is usually assumed. Because waterlogged wood is by definition at or near its maximum moisture content, the method requires making certain that all air is replaced by water so that the wood is truly at its maximum moisture content. This step can be done by vacuum-pressure impregnation, after which the moisture content can be determined by oven-drying. The conventional density can then be calculated by ... [Pg.89]

The compaction of the soil material is directly related to the moisture content of the subgrade soil at compaction. Unless the moisture content is at its optimum value during compaction, maximum density cannot be achieved. The determination of the optimum water content is carried out in the laboratory using various methods, the most common of which is the proctor method (compaction). [Pg.13]

The determination of the moisture content during compaction is an easy task given that it is determined in the laboratory for maximum compacted density, employing the Proctor test (modified method), according to CEN EN 13286-2 (2012) or ASTM D 1557-09 (2012), or other suitable test methods (see Chapter 1). The only thing the engineer has to do is to ensure that the same moisture content was used during construction/compaction. [Pg.455]
