Both catecholamines and serotonin are present in medullary thyroid carcinomas. Uribe and coworkers demonstrated serotonin immunoreactivity in 70% (14 of 20) of cases. Serotonin immunoreactivity in these tumors is generally present in cells with a dendritic morphology, similar to that of the somatostatin-positive cells.
