Abstract. The degradation mechanism of field emission cathodes based on carbon nanostructural materials was investigated in the presented work. Emission current instability came from the adsorption desorption processes on the cathode surface. During the long-time tests the periodical variation of the electron work function (caused by switching on and off of the cathode) was detected. The numerical model was proposed to explain the experimentally observed variations of electron work function. 

One such application of RSEs, or their constituent bond dissociation energies, is in the study of radical-mediated degradation mechanisms. For example, based on an examination of the relevant C-H and S-H bond dissociation energies in model peptides. Extrapolation of the real-time data from the long-term stability condition to support a re-test period longer than the real-time data can be proposed. The proposal should be supported by the accelerated data, by knowledge of the degradation mechanism, by additional stability data from batches other than the primary batches that might be available, and the goodness of fit of the mathematical model used in the statistical analysis. 

Furthermore, chemical models to be developed can be applied in the EUROCHAMP network for the solution of specific problems in atmospheric chemistry, e.g. development and validation of degradation mechanisms of organic pollutants that are of paramount importance, the investigation of atmospheric reactivity as an overall property under various conditions or the influence of alternative fuels or solvents as well as bio fuels on tropospheric chemistry (3 objective).
