Degenerative Chain Transfer Reaction DT

In degenerative ehain transfer, the dormant species (P —X) is attaeked by the propagating radieal P to form a new dormant species (P — X) and P . Two variations of this sample exchange reaetion have been reported. 

In the first group, X is simply transferred from radieal to radieal, i.e.. 

Iodine mediated polymerizations, where X = I this has hmited apphea- 

Tellnrinm-mediated living radical polymerizations (TERP), where X is an organo tellurium species, such as TeCHj. Polymerization of styrene and methyl methacrylate has been smdied using AIBN initiator and TeCHj, but results suggest that TERP involves both DT and DC meehanisms.
