Deep Entrapment

Compaction caused by the weight of overlying rocks is called upon to explain the water pressure in deep-seated artesian aquifers (Mazor, 1995). Compaction counteracts through-flow in deep aquifers, as it causes collapse features, and pressurizes the entrapped water. If through-flow would take place, the open ends of the hypothetical aquifer ducts would serve as... [Pg.47]

Lawrence (1937) first noted that the site of incorporation of solubilized molecules depended on their relative hydrophobic and hydrophilic tendencies. The solubilizate may be entrapped in the hydrocarbon core of the micelle, be oriented radially in the micelle with its polar group buried (deep penetration) or near the surface (short penetration), or be adsorbed on the surface of the micelle. Additionally, for non-ionic surfactants, incorporation of the solubilizate can occur in the polyoxyethylene shell of the surfactant. Fig. 3 illustrates several modes of solubilizate incorporation. It is important to realize, however, that solubilization, like micelle formation, is not a static but a dynamic equilibrium process. [Pg.281]

Very deep cut screws can lead to poor quality parts owing to entrapped air. [Pg.272]

Air may be entrapped during stamping and cause localized burning and surface defects. Therefore, molds should be vented. Deep ribs or box-like forms can be vented by use of sintered metal plugs. The plastic will not seep into the fine top disc but yet the air wUl vent out the bottom. [Pg.345]
