Deducibility and predictability

The distinction between deducibility and predictability is important. Consider, for, example in biological evolution the emergence of flagellain bacteria, or wings in the early birds. The development of such properties cannot generally be predicted. However, once they are there, they can be deduced a posteriori from a series of small evolutionary hints.
