Decadic molar absorption

Spectral overlap In the context of radiative energy transfer, it is the integral, J = ff (a) 8a (o )da, which measures the overlap of the emission spectrum of the excited donor, D, and the absorption spectrum of the ground state acceptor, A. fr is the measured normalized emission of D, fo —fD decadic molar absorption coefticient of A at wavenumber a.

In the course of this formal deduction of the amount of light absorbed, the Napierian molar absorption coefficient k is used. Later in the experimental section and during the practical examples using absorbance measurements, e symbolises the decadic (molar) absorption coefficients obtained in calibration experiments using UV/vis spectrometers. 

In formal kinetics the symbols A, B,... are used for the reactants. The symbol E is used to represent absorbance in this book. Napierian units are used in this chapter (see Section 1.4.3). In Chapters 4 and 5 decadic units are used for convenience and the decadic molar absorption coefficient is indicated by B as used in Section 1.4.4. 

The low-resolution absorption spectrum of SO2 is shown in Fig. 7.4. The intense band system lying between 1900 and 2300 A is called the second allowed band. It exhibits a decadic molar absorption coefficient e 3000 L mol cm at maximum, which is characteristic of a strongly El-allowed electronic transition in triatomics.
