Deadheaded pumps

It is veiy important that sealless pumps be flooded with hquid before starting, to avoid damage to bearings from imbalance or overheating. Entrained gases in the suction can cause immediate imbalance problems and lead to internal bearing damage. Some type of liquia sensor is recommended. Sealless pumps must not be operated deadheaded (pump hquid full with inlet and/or outlet valves closed). [Pg.2310]

Dead-heading A blockage on the discharge side of an operating pump which results in the flow reducing to zero and an increase in the discharge pressure. The energy input from the deadheaded pump increases the temperature and pressure of the fluid in the pump. [Pg.160]

KINETIC ENERGY (MATERIAL TRANSFER) Moving process material Overpressure or overtemperature by deadheaded pumping Impingement by process material Water hammer damage... [Pg.26]

A positive displacement pump pumps water at 200 gpm at a pressure of 200 psig. Because a deadheaded pump can be easily damaged, compute the area required to relieve the pump, assuming a backpressure of 20 psig and (a) a 10% overpressure and (b) a 25% overpressure. [Pg.388]

Deadheaded pumps, especially those pumps carrying liquids with a low flash point. [Pg.377]

A deadheaded pump is a pump operating full of liquid and with inlet and outlet valves closed. [Pg.126]

It is not necessary for there to be a chemical reaction in a pump for an explosion to take place. Deadheaded pumps containing only water or brine have blown up. [Pg.127]

V-4 closed Deadhead pump Damage to pump FICA-1 Any other problem... [Pg.66]

Deadhead pump Reagent released Upset in reactor... [Pg.67]

FICA-1 fails, closing FV-1 Deadhead pump Damage to pump PI-1 See Event 26. [Pg.67]

V-2 and V-4 closed Deadhead pump Overpressure in PI-1, pump or line FICA-1 Evaluate need for hydraulic relief. ... [Pg.67]
