Data visualisation

This paper describes the procedure generation, data acquisition and data visualisation functions of the CantuS system. 

There are a large number of different types of graph available in Matlab. Below we discuss a few methods that can be used to produce diagrams of the type employed in this text. The enthusiast will soon discover further approaches. Matlab is a very powerful tool for data visualisation. 

Data generated from process analysis techniques are commonly displayed on control charts and the term statistical process control (SPC) is often used to describe the use of such data visualisation [5], As the amount of data available increases, due both to different measurements and greater frequency of measurements, then combinations of different data provide improved methods of monitoring the processes concerned. The procedures and concepts of multivariate SPC incorporating principal component analysis (PCA) and partial least squares (PLS) analysis then become important [6]. The different SPC approaches are all aimed at providing better process control and improved process understanding.

The above sections have presented the most common data visualisation methods for a given data set. More complex forms can be created by combining different simple data visualisation methods into a final integrated plot. Alternatively, the data could be transformed (changed in some manner) before being plotted. The different techniques that are available to accomplish this depend strongly on the intended application and will be introduced in the relevant sections in later chapters.
