DARE Drug Abuse

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) A program introduced in 1983 to help kids resist the temptation of drugs by boosting self-esteem, decision-making ability, and the ability to resist peer pressure. Experts differ about the efficacy of the program. 

Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) is the nation s largest and best-known drug abuse prevention and education organization. Its web site at http //www.dare.org offers reports of national and local DARE activities, resources, testimonials, and studies on the effectiveness of the program. Almost 80% of the school systems in the United States have embraced the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) program, making it by far the most popular program in the nation. It has been endorsed by school officials, law enforcement agencies, and parents alike. 

The best-known resistance-oriented program in drug use prevention is DARE (Dnjg Abuse Resistance Education). The program, traditionaliy targeted at fifth- and sixth-grade students, has been modified for use with a wider range of students.
