Dalai Lama

I want full participation in the rites ofmy religion. I, too, want apotheosis. I want to be a bishop, an elder, an imam, a mufti, a mullah, a bonze, a dalai lama.

Recently I heard a great spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, talk about promoting world peace. I was very moved by his lecture, for he spoke from his heart as well as his mind. He stressed the many ways that external conflicts between people and nations stem from internal conflicts within ourselves, rather than arising only from external sources. We have to work on the external reasons for conflict, but if we want lasting external peace, we must work for it from a solid, inner foundation of personal peace. 

Cannabis also held a preeminent place in the Tantric religion which evolved in Tibet in the seventh century A.D. out of an amalgam of Buddhism and local religion. The priests of this religion were wizards known as lamas ("superiors"). The high priest was called the Dalai Lama ("mighty superior"). 

It would make a world of difference. One child, bom with Gemini rising, Mercury on the Ascendant, and the Sun in the first house, is Candy Barr, the platinum-haired stripper who died in 2005. The other, born with Cancer rising, Pluto on the Ascendant, and the Sun in the twelfth house, is the Dalai Lama. This stark difference suggests how crucial the rising sign and house placements can be. They re as important as sign placements. 

Despite efforts by the Dalai Lama and other Tibetan spiritual leaders to regain their homeland, the Chinese government is unwilling to grant independence to Tibet.

Tibet developed close ties with China in the eighteenth century. The Dalai Lama agreed to become the spiritual guide of the Manchu emperor. He accepted patronage and protection in return for advice. This relationship... 

Richard J. Davidson, Ph.D., is a neuroscientist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a pioneer in the field of East-West medicine. He is known for a remarkable collaboration with the Dalai Lama. The spiritual leader sent eight of his monks to the university so that Davidson could map their brains while they meditated. These particular monks were highly accomplished. Each had from fifteen to forty years of traditional Tibetan meditation experience.
