Dairy cattle protein utilization

SBM is the most widely used protein supplement for dairy cattle in North America and much of the world. Reasons for the dominance in the market include high nutritional quality, consistency, widespread availability, and cost-competitiveness. SBM usage by the dairy industry in the United States is estimated to be only about one-third of the total potential protein utilization if all supplemental protein was supplied by SBM (Clark Bateman, 1999).
