Balearone and strictaketal were also identified in the species Cystoseira mediterranea and C. tamarisdfolia. Iso-balearone and isostrictaketal are the 2(2) isomers of balearone and strictaketal. The carbon skeleton that we propose to call neocystalgerane is currently represented by only one compound, claraenone, which has been isolated from an undetermined species of Cystoseira harvested in Montana Clara, in the Canary Islands (see Figure 14.17). 

Combined with mediterraneols and qrstoseirols in Cystoseira mediterranea, mediterraneol E has a particular rearranged carbon skeleton, formed from bicyclo[5,3,0]decane (Fadli et al., 1991).
