In the United States, acetylene cylinders stored inside a building at user locations must be limited to a total capacity of 2500 ft (70.8 m ) of gas, exclusive of cylinders in use or attached for use. Quantities exceeding this total must be stored in a special building or in a separate room as required by NFPA 51 [4]. 

Cylinders may be stored in the open, but must be protected against extremes of weather and from the dampness of the ground to prevent rusting. During the summer, cylinders stored in the open should be shaded against the continuous direct rays of the sun in those localities where extreme temperatures prevail.

APC (Denmark), which uses Hydrogenics stacks, has launched a fuel cell backup power system for data centres. The InfraStruXure , with rack mounted integrated fuel cell system, provides up to 3 x 10 kW of power. The hydrogen fuel is bottled and stored in T-shaped gas cylinders, with each cylinder storing enough fuel for 79 minutes per lOkW stack.
