Cyclic hydrocarbons as sensitizers

Monig and Kriegel [431—436], Siewert [573] and Fox and Price [231] found that the addition of cyclic hydrocarbons (anthracene, pyrene, 3,4-benzpyrene) to solutions of polymethylmethacrylate initiates the sensitized photo-oxidation of the polymer. 

Rabek [504] found that anthracene sensitizes the degradation and photo-oxidation of polystyrene in solution. It also sensitizes the degradation of cis-polybutadiene in benzene solution.
