Cyanide intoxication animal studies

As early as 1840, Blake42 found that the lethal effects of cyanide are neutralized by mechanical resuscitation. The use of hyperbaric oxygen in cyanide intoxication is still controversial. Supplemental oxygen with or without assisted ventilation clearly augments the effect of specific antidotes in animal studies however, despite encouraging reports,43,44 there is inconclusive evidence of further benefit from the use of hyperbaric oxygen.
