The coordination chemistry of the cyanate, thiocyanate and selenocyanate ligands has been recently reviewed.1874 Platinum(II) forms the complex ion Pt(SCN)2-, and the corresponding homoleptic platinum(IV) complex Pt(SCN)i can be prepared. Numerous mixed ligand complexes of platinum(II) are known containing the thiocyanate ligand and other ligands, although there are fewer platinum(IV) examples. 4...

It may be concluded, therefore, that attempts to provide too detailed a comparison of the coordination behavior of the chalcogeno-cyanate ions are not useful until a better understanding is obtained of the differing effects of the cyano group on the atom X in NCX . Such an interaction may, and probably does, modify the comparative chemistry that might be expected for the oxygen, sulfur, or selenium... 

The tetraphenylarsonium cation is useful in coordination chemistry because of its large size. Tetraphenylarsonium cyanate dihydrate was prepared byNor-buryand Sinhain 1968. The preparation involved precipitation of the cyanate from an aqueous solution, but the method suffers from the disadvantage of low yields. Tetraphenylarsonium cyanide has been prepared from methanol solution with fairly good yields, but the product is isolated as the monohydrate. The ion-exchange method developed for the tetraalkylammonium salts can be readily applied to the preparation of anhydrous tetraphenylarsonium cyanate and cyanide, thus eliminating many of the problems initially involved in the synthesis of these componds.
