Cyanamines

An earlier report (126) which assigned the irons configuration to the enamine (175) derived from the cyanamine (176) upon reaction with potassium amide in liquid ammonia has been questioned by Munk and Kim (725). They also have doubts about the structures (177 and 178) proposed for the products obtained by the reduction of acetonitrile with sodium (727). 

Cyanamines.—This name has been given to the compounds resulting from the action of ammonia and amines in presence of an oxidising agent on Fast Blue B. (A description of Fast Blue II or Naphthol Blue occurs on p. 161.)... 

Ammonia-cyanamine has a greener shade than the original fast blue the dimethylamine-cyanamine is more valuable on account of its pure greenish-blue shade. 

It has been demonstrated that the green shades of fast blue contain one of these cyanamines the formation of which results from the interaction of fast blue E. with the dimethylparapheny-lenediamine formed during the reaction.
