The checkers used 16.8 g. of Eastman Kodak Company cyanamide (P1995) without further purification. A convenient method of preparing cyanamide from commercial calcium cyan-amide has been described. According to the submitters, an aqueous solution of crude cyanamide is satisfactory in the present synthesis and is obtained by adapting this published procedure as follows. 

The reaction of 1-methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydropyridine 62 and azides 50a-c in dry ether at 25°C afforded the l-methylpiperidylidene-2-sulfon(cyan)amides 65a-c in good yield (82JHC1259). The reaction proceeds via a triazoline intermediate 63, which loses nitrogen to afford 65. The elimination of nitrogen from triazoline intermediate 63 occurs by two possible mechanisms [68JCS(C)277]. In path A, the 63 could eliminate nitrogen to give first an unstable 2,7-diazabicyclo[4.1.0]heptane... 

The generation of other heteroq cles from Bfx and Fx has been the subject of exhaustive investigation. The most important transformation of Bfx to other heterocycles has been described by Haddadin and Issidorides, and is known as the Beirut reaction . This reaction involves a condensation between adequate substituted Bfx and alkene-type substructure synthons, particularly enamine and enolate nucleophiles. The Beirut reaction has been employed to prepare quinoxaline 1,4-dioxides [41], phenazine 5,10-dioxides (see Chap. Quinoxahne 1,4-dioxide and Phenazine 5,10-dioxide. Chemistry and Biology ), 1-hydroxybenzimidazole 3-oxides or benzimidazole 1,3-dioxides, when nitroalkanes have been used as enolate-producer reagent [42], and benzo[e] [ 1,2,4]triazine 1,4-dioxides when Bfx reacts with sodium cyan-amide [43-46] (Fig. 4). 

In the reaction of l-hydroxy-2-oxo-l-cyclohexanecarboxamide and cyan-amide, the 2-aminooxazole 282 was formed. Treatment of 282 with hydrazine yielded the semicarbazide 283, which on iodine oxidation gave the perhydro-2,4-quinazolinedione 284 (87JPR177). Although the configuration of the product was not given, the cis annelation can be deduced from the published NMR data. 

Materials. Difunctional Reagents Isocyanatoethyl methacrylate (IEM) was supplied by Dow Chemical Co. as an experimental reagent. Meta TMI is available from Cyan amid, Inc. 

Dialkyl Sulfosuccinates. Introduced in 1939 by the American Cyan amid Company under the Aerosol trademark, dialkyl sulfosuccinates have become widely used specialty surfactants (Table 8) (9). Within the limitations in hydrolytic stability imposed by the presence of the ester groups, sulfosuccinates are mild, versatile surfactants used when strong wetting, detergency, rewetting, penetration, and solubilization effectiveness is needed.

In 1933 the Tennessee Valley Authority inherited a World War I plant designed to produce ammonia by a roundabout and obsolete method in the following steps first the manuf of lime and subsequently f a carbide, then Ca cyan amide, ammonia, nitric acid and finally AN.
