Customary Trivial Names

To make the chapter on carbohydrate nomenclature complete, Table 17 supplements a compilation of a larger number of widely used trivial names of derivatized saccharides with their systematic equivalents. 

Neuraminic acid 5-Amino-3y5-dideoxy-D-glycero-D-galacto-non-2-ulosonic acid 

Streptobiose 2-Deoxy-2-methylamino-a-L-glucopyranosyl-(1 2)-5-deoxy-3-C-formyl-L-lyxose

Branched monosaccharides are treated according to the afore-stated principles as substituted unbranched sugars, with customary trivial names... 

It is to be noted that when a and / are attached to some iso-propylidene ketals of fructose they are part of a trivial name and are not used in the customary anomeric sense the quotation marks may serve for easy distinction. 

Nitriles derived from trivially named carboxylic acids traditionally have the ending. ..onitrile acetonitrile, propiononitrile, butyronitrile, etc. Moreover, radicofunctional nomenclature is (still) also customary here, leading to names of the type. ..yl cyanides. 

Trivial (customary) names are used for the amorphous modification of an element.
