Crystallike Particulates Cork Dust

Cork dust appears crystallike microscopically and may be confused with 

Brightfield microscope and several slides and cover slips 

Phloroglucinol stain Mix 2 g of phloroglucinol in 100 mL of 10% (vol/vol) HCl. This is a near-saturated mixture and supernatant must be decanted from any crystals that do not dissolve. This solution should be made fresh daily. Therefore, the analyst may wish to reduce proportionately the volume made at one time. 

Collect a portion of wine containing the debris by membrane filtration. 

Wet the filter and sediment with phloroglucinol stain. Hold stain in contact with sediment for 5 min.
