Coupling of a Ligand to the Support Matrix

The ligand may be coupled either directly to the matrix or to a spacer arm which itself is attached to the matrix. A spacer arm is used to reduce steric hindrance between the target molecule and the ligand (Fig. 9-3). In either case immobilisation should be through a region which will not interfere with binding to the target mole-
