Coupling image effects

These considerations suggest that dynamical studies of bulge-dominated spirals can be wrong not only in their assessment of the visible M/L ratios but also in their inferences about dark halos. NIR imaging effectively probes the mass distribution due to lower extinction and to the more direct link to the stellar mass. When coupled with accurate rotation curves, NIR brightness profiles should provide the best means to determine the mass distribution in disk galaxies. [Pg.129]

Contrast enhancement lithography is a clever procedure which uses a bleachable contrast enhancing layer to restore the distorted aerial image of the mask which has been blurred by diffraction effects into a sharp image at the underlying photoresist surface. The process is too complicated to explain in detail here and the interested reader is referred to the cited literature (60,61). Suffice it to say that the large extinction coefficients of most polysilane derivatives coupled with their ready bleachability make them ideally suited for such purposes and we have demonstrated this application at 313 nm (16,18). [Pg.57]

In summary, for displaced oscillators, absorption and emission spectra show a mirror image relation and for the strong coupling case, a(oo) will exhibit a Gaussian band shape, absorption maximum independent of temperature, and bandwidth increasing with temperature. It should be noted that the distortion effect and Duschinsky effect have not been considered in this chapter, but these effects can be treated similarly. [Pg.14]
