The aerial parts of T. heterotomum yielded two sesquiterpene-coumarin ethers (219, 221), one of them being new (221) (Table 1). The structure of the compounds were established by spectral methods (Table 2 and 4) [104]. 

Sesquiterpene coumarins constitute an interesting family of natural products. They are a group of molecules whose structures are based on a C15 terpene moiety linked through either an ether linkage with the 7-hydroxy group of umbelliferone. 

According to Semmler, the oil contains a sesquiterpene, and the dimethyl ether of thymohydroquinone. Traces of coumarin are also present.
