Moisture corrosion

Because silver, gold and copper electrodes are easily activated for SERS by roughening by use of reduction-oxidation cycles, SERS has been widely applied in electrochemistry to monitor the adsorption, orientation, and reactions of molecules at those electrodes in-situ. Special cells for SERS spectroelectrochemistry have been manufactured from chemically resistant materials and with a working electrode accessible to the laser radiation. The versatility of such a cell has been demonstrated in electrochemical reactions of corrosive, moisture-sensitive materials such as oxyhalide electrolytes [4.299]. [Pg.262]

Various isotope applications are used to monitor the quality of materials and structures. Isotopic tracer techniques measure wear, corrosion, moisture, leakage, and many other factors. Neutron radiography creates images of materials that are not as dense as those captured in X-ray photos. This method is used chiefly to check uranium fuel in nuclear reactors for flaws, to find cracks in the inner plastic or aluminium parts of airplanes, or to detect tiny fissures in gas turbine blades. Californium-252 is used for neutron radiography and neutron activation analyses. [Pg.82]

Caution. Triethyloxonium tetrafluornhorate is a corrosive, moisture sensitive. solid. Contact with this reagent should he avoided. [Pg.263]

Radioactive material packagings are designed to deal with many factors temperature variation, shielding, contamination, containment systems, pressure relief, absorbents, corrosion, moisture, heat buildup, water and snow immersion, cooling systems, critical mass, mechanical and structural integrity, etc. There are three main types ... [Pg.204]

Cover measurement is carried out on new structures to see that adequate cover has been provided to the structure in line with design requirements. It is also carried out when corrosion is observed because low cover will increase the corrosion rate both by allowing the agents of corrosion (chlorides and carbonation) more rapid access to steel, and also allowing more rapid access of the fuels for corrosion, moisture and oxygen. A cover survey will help to explain why the structure is corroding and show which areas are most susceptible to corrosion due to low cover. [Pg.42]

Sulfur tetrafluoride (SF4), a corrosive, moisture-sensitive gas, is commercially available. Industrially, it is most conveniently prepared via the following reaction ... [Pg.234]

The worldwide development of plastics, thereby of plasticizers, imposed the synthesis of new plasticizing polyesters of dimer acid, which are supposed to have resistance to corrosion, moisture, and chemicals besides having plasticizing properties. [Pg.584]

Handling, Storage, and Precautions corrosive moisture sensitive. Store in a cool, dry place. [Pg.349]

Nitrided steels offer improved corrosion and oxidation resistance. The nitrided surface of an alloy steel or tool exhibits increased resistance to saltwater corrosion, moisture and water. [Pg.297]
