Cooperation in Antibody Response

IgD Immunoglobulin D causes differentiation of B cells to a more mature form and is expressed on the surface of B lymphocytes. It is present in a monomeric form with a molecular weight of 180 kDa. [Pg.7]

After exposure to an antigen, its recognition by the immune system is followed by either the production of an immune response or the development of tolerance, depending on the circumstances. The immune response could be humoral, cell-mediated or both. On second and subsequent encounters with the same antigen, the type of response is determined by the outcome of the first response. However, the quantity and the quality of both responses are very different. [Pg.7]
