At time TIMEON the cooling flow rate is set to FCON. 

Run the reactor continuously. Observe the space-time yield, SPTYC. Set TIMEON = 0, and set FCON to the desired cooling flow rate. 

The reactor is run initially as a batch reactor (F = 0) under adiabatic conditions (Fco = 0) to obtain a high initial rates of reaction. At time TIMEON the cooling flow rate is set to FCON and the reaction temperature reduced to obtain favourable equilibrium conditions. 

With the shutdown cooling flow indicators, the operator maintains a total shutdown cooling flow rate by adjusting the amount of coolant which bypasses the SCS heat exchangers. 

First and foremost, the reactor channels had to be defuelled in an increasing order of cooling flow rate (in the Saint-Laurent-des-Eaux NPP, where the unloading of the reactor core took place very soon after the shutdown, the cooling of the chaimels remaining loaded was the first priority). 

To defuel the reactor in increasing order of the channel cooling flow rate. 

The reactor coolant pumps provide an adequate core cooling flow rate for sufficient heat transfer to maintain a departure from nucleate boiling ratio greater than the limit established in the safety analysis.
