In the first chapter the heat transfer coefficient was defined by 

Basically we differentiate between forced and free flow. A forced flow is produced by external forces, for example when a flow is caused by a pump or blower. A free flow, on the other hand, is due to changes in density which are caused by temperature, pressure and concentration fields. We will discuss heat and mass transfer in forced flow first, moving onto free flow at the end of the section.
