Contract arrangement

To protect both parties in a contract arrangement it is good practice to make a contract in which the scope of work, completion time and method of reimbursement are agreed. Contracts are normally awarded though a competitive tendering process or after negotiation if there is only one suitable contractor. 

Biphenyl prices vary widely depending on grade, quantities purchased, and special contract arrangements. In 1991 the U.S. pubHshed price for 99.9% biphenyl was 1.40 to 1.63 per kg depending on quantity and packaging (40). Lower purity HDA-grades mn roughly half this price. 

In the short term, producers should adapt their contract arrangements to the unstable environment, and consider financial and physical hedges. 

Large amounts of Uquid product can be moved in large tankers (>125,000 tonnes). These are generally referred to as dirty cargoes because the product transported is crude oil and residual fuel oU. Generally this fleet is unsuitable to transport chemicals, even if sufficient volumes are available. For the transport of large volumes of chemicals dedicated ships may be required. This may be provided as a contract arrangement. 

The specification of GMP responsibilities should be accessible at the premises of both the Contract Giver and Contract Acceptor for examination by the inspecting authority. It should be formally reviewed at appropriate intervals. Any alterations to contract arrangements should be agreed in writing by both parties. 

Nil took the position that any contracts for services essential to the safe operation of the sites would need to be re-established by the new licensees (Nuclear Electric and Scottish Nuclear, who held sole responsibility for safety under their licenses), not by the parent holding company. Nil reasoned that contractor failure could not release a licensee from the responsibility associated with its site license. Nil ultimately judged the new contract arrangements to be satisfactory.
