Contiguity factor

The contiguity factor, Cj is actually a so-called fudge factor used to make sense out of the comparison of experimental dataTwitlirtheore-tical predictions. This correlation factor is useful only when the data fall between the theoretical bounds. The concept of a contiguity factor, i.e.. 

The experimental results for of a glass-epoxy composite material are shown along with the theoretical prediction from Equation (3.66) as a function of resin content by weight in Figure 3-44. Theoretical results are shown for contiguity factors of C = 0,. 2,. 4, and 1. Apparently, C = 0 is the upper limit of the data whereas C =. 4 is the lower limit. Thus, the concept of contiguity factor is further reinforced.

If the company is considering expanding its operations at the proposed site, it must be determined whether a proposed site can accommodate not only the plant but the contemplated expansions. To do this all factors listed in Table 2-3 must be evaluated to see that for the enlarged plant none are in short supply. All the land necessary should be bought initially. Once the proposed plant site is announced to the public, all the contiguous land will increase in value. This will be especially true if the company ever gives any hint that it would like to expand. 

Similarly, ionized alcohols and ethers containing a chain of at least three contiguous carbon atoms attached at one end to the oxygen atom frequently expel water or the alcohol derived from the smaller alkyl group76-80. However, the corresponding ionized amines rarely eliminate ammonia or small alkylamines in great abundance. This contrast reflects energetic factors. Water and small alcohols are extremely stable molecules (AHf = —240 and —190 kJ mol-1, respectively, for water and methanol), but ammonia and methylamine are not particularly stable (AHf = —20 and —25 kJmol-1, respectively)82,83. This is the dose rate factor for any arbitrary dose-rate distribution that consists of n contiguous segments, and where a Z) and c, are, respectively, the dose rate, the center, and the time required to deliver the dose rate segment i. 

At the conclusion of the initiation process, the ribosome is poised to translate the reading frame associated with the initiator codon. The translation of the contiguous codons in mRNA is accomplished by the sequential repetition of three reactions with each amino acid. These three reactions of elongation are similar in both prokaryotic and eukaryotic systems two of them require nonribosomal proteins known as elongation factors (EF). Interestingly, the actual formation of the peptide bond does not require a factor and is the only reaction of protein synthesis catalyzed by the ribosome itself.
